Change the Ref Shock Market

Weaponizing gun violence data to reform America’s gun laws.

In 2021, gun violence in the United States reached crisis levels. Refusing to accept the unacceptable, gun reform advocates and survivors from Change the Ref, Guns Down America, and March for Our Lives wanted change from the only political leader who could take action: President Biden.

On February 14, 2022, the fourth anniversary of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida, and two weeks before President Biden's State of the Union address, we launched our protest in D.C. and on Washington's unofficial political platform, Twitter. There, we pushed out messages and social posts in ways that were impossible to ignore.

Numbers that speak for themselves.

An invitation for regulation.

Less than a month after launch, President Biden invited all involved to the White House for an announcement on gun violence reduction. Here, he nominated a new director to head the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) while also implementing a series of lifesaving regulations.

Though these changes are steps in the right direction, our mission won’t let up until these numbers go down.
